Spring for Cancer Campaign Launches with Your Anti-Cancer Food Guide Kit

The Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre Launches Spring for Cancer Campaign with Your Anti-Cancer Food Guide Kit

Donors have access to a rich & colourful OICC food guide, as well as delicious & easy recipes and informative store tours produced in collaboration with Natural Food Pantry.

OTTAWA, April 1, 2014 – The Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (OICC) today launched its Spring for Cancer fundraising and awareness campaign with city-wide distribution of Your Anti-Cancer Food Guide. Engaging with numerous local community partners, the food guide is available for the general public at select locations throughout Ottawa, and as a download for donors at www.oicc.ca/springforcancer.

During April and May, the general public is being asked to donate $2 in support of the OICC subsidized care fund, in exchange for Your Anti-Cancer Food Guide. 100% of proceeds will provide support for those living with cancer, yet unable to afford complementary cancer care.

Community partners distributing the Food Guide include Natural Food Pantry, Watson’s Pharmacy, The Table Restaurant, Rainbow Foods, The SPA & The SPA Day Retreat, Look Beyond Mastectomy Boutique & Juice Bar, World of Tea, Hintonburg Market and Simply Raw, among many other supporters.

Cancer is preventable, treatment can be less debilitating, and the probability of recurrence can be reduced.  This is the stand of the OICC.

As the first integrative cancer care and research centre in Central and Eastern Canada, the goal of the OICC is simple: to improve quality of life for those touched by cancer, to help prevent recurrence, and to extend life where possible, by providing complementary treatments alongside conventional care. Existing evidence shows that when certain complementary therapies are used together with standard cancer treatments, the result is enhanced efficacy, reduced side effects, alleviated patient distress and less suffering.

“We are very grateful for the wonderful support and engagement we are seeing with Natural Food Pantry and the Ottawa community at large,” said Dr. Dugald Seely, ND, Founder & Executive Director for the OICC. “While we are fundraising for subsidized care with Spring for Cancer, we are also delivering on our mission to educate and empower the general public for cancer prevention.”

Cancer can have a catastrophic financial impact on individuals and their families. Well aware of this, the OICC established the subsidized care fund to give as many patients as possible access to complementary therapies, regardless of their income. As a not-for-profit, charitable organization, receiving no government funding, the OICC’s capacity to provide subsidization is limited. The fund must be kept replenished and growing, to help an increasing number of patients in need.
